Making Tax Digital 2019

With the deadline for Making Tax Digital looming on 1st April 2019, Mysoft would like to share our recommended route for Sage Enterprise Management (formerly Sage X3) customers.

If you’re unsure what to do with your Sage Enterprise Management solution and what Making Tax Digital actually requires from you as a business then please read on, including recommended routes for various versions of Sage Enterprise Management…

What is Making Tax Digital?

The Making Tax Digital (MTD) initiative is part of the government’s plans to become one of the most digitally advanced tax administrations globally, by requiring UK VAT registered businesses to submit their VAT returns digitally to HMRC. Businesses over the registration threshold must submit their VAT returns without any manual intervention by 1st April 2019.

Via the latest patch for your solution you will be able to submit your taxes directly from your Sage Enterprise Management solution to HMRC. This will require some professional services time for the patch update.

There are two routes possible for customers using an older version of Sage Enterprise Management, the Sage route and a solution via our partner Avalara.

The Sage Route

Sage have released a Sage Making Tax Digital module that can be implemented within your current solution so that you are able to pull data from Sage Enterprise Management to HMRC. The module will require a separate purchase and professional services time to implement.

The Avalara Route

Avalara is a third party provider of VAT reporting software that is recognised by HMRC. For 2019, the Avalara route will enable you to extract the information from your VAT report and manually enter it into a HMRC enabled spreadsheet. There are further requirements for 2020 compliance which we will cover in due course. Avalara MTD Filer is an excel tool that you can use for free and works alongside Sage Enterprise Management.
